형제가 고친 집The house we rebuilt我们亲手翻新的家
1956년에 지은 한옥이에요. 그때 서울에 흔하던 ㄷ자 도심 한옥, 그러니까 평범한 살림집이었어요.
이 집을 형제 둘이 여섯 달 동안 손봤어요. 고칠 데는 고치고, 흰 벽이랑 나무, 볕 드는 마당은 그대로 뒀고요. 이미 좋았거든요.
지금은 한 가족에게 통째로 내어드려요. 안채랑 별채가 나뉘어 있어서, 식구가 많아도 각자 자기 자리가 생겨요. 다 같이 저녁 먹고 마당에 앉아 늦게까지 얘기하기 좋은 집이에요.
It's a hanok built in 1956. Back then this kind of ㄷ-shaped city hanok was everywhere in Seoul, just an ordinary home for ordinary people.
Two of us, brothers, spent six months fixing it up. We mended what needed mending and left the rest alone: the white walls, the wood, the sunlit courtyard. They were already good.
Now we hand the whole house to one family. The main house and the annex sit apart, so even a big family gets room to spread out. It's a good place to cook dinner together and sit in the courtyard talking late into the night.
这座韩屋建于1956年。当年首尔随处可见的那种“ㄷ”字形城市韩屋，本是一户普通人家的住宅。
我们兄弟俩花了半年时间来打理它。该修的地方修一修，白墙、木料，还有洒满阳光的院子，就照原样留了下来。它们本来就很好。
如今，我们把整座房子交给一家人。正房和厢房各自独立，人再多，也都有自己的角落。一起做顿晚饭，坐在院子里聊到深夜，这里再合适不过。
